Current Operating Procedures

Bryce Resort values the health of our guests and employees. Please review our winter operating policies and procedures (listed in detail below) prior to your visit.  We are excited to have you on our mountain and look forward to providing a safe environment for all.

FACE MASKS

Face masks are required at Bryce Resort for anyone over the age of 5.  Face masks are required to be worn:

»  Inside all Resort buildings unless eating or drinking
»  At all lift lines
»  On the chair lifts
»  While snow tubing
»  While ice skating
»  When loading or unloading on the chair lifts
»  While interacting with any Bryce Resort staff
»  Whenever one cannot social distance from someone outside of their party

WHAT TO EXPECT AT BRYCE RESORT

Operational changes we’ve made to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Our winter season is fast approaching, and we want to take this opportunity to update you on our plan for the coming season and to thank you for your patience over the last seven months as we work through our various operational plans on the mountain and in food and beverage. It has been an exceptional time, and we are grateful for your loyalty and commitment to the resort as well as being diligent in following the health and safety practices that were put into place. It is our mission to make every effort to operate as safely as possible and to help keep you and our and staff safe during this pandemic.

This past spring and summer we were able to offer most of our activities. We are now applying everything that we learned from a successful summer season to our winter operations. We continue to follow all Commonwealth of Virginia and CDC guidelines, well as taking a page from the National Ski Areas Association Pandemic Playbook. The operational guidelines we are establishing at Bryce are in conjunction with other ski resorts, offering consistency and continuity.

Because our preparations for this winter season are based on the current guidelines and best practices from around the country there are some operational changes you will notice in booking your lift tickets, for rental needs, lessons, and snow tubing hours. Detailed information regarding our mask policy, hours and days of operation, ski lessons, Kinder School, rentals, snow tubing, and ice skating can be found in the tabs on this page and on the respective pages for each activity. ALL RESERVATIONS MUST BE MADE ONLINE , including lift tickets, rentals, lessons and tubing tickets.

  • • While on Bryce Resort property, MASKS or FACE COVERINGS are REQUIRED when waiting in line, interacting with Bryce staff, loading, and unloading chairlifts and at all times indoors (unless actively eating or drinking while seated at a table). Guests unwilling to comply with the guidelines will be asked to leave Bryce property.
  • • Lift tickets, ski lessons, Kinder School reservations, ski rentals, and tubing tickets must be purchased in advance. Purchasing in advance also guarantees that you will receive the sessions/times you desire.
  • • Daily lift tickets will not be sold day of, on-site at Bryce Resort. Skier capacities will be controlled via the sale of daily tickets and advance sales may be closed based on our anticipated visitation, especially during holiday periods.
  • • Lift policy limits chairlift occupancy to people from the same guest party (Arrive Together, Ride Together); two willing individuals or staff, not from the same, seated on opposite sides of a quad chairlift; or one individual guest on our double lift.
  • • Our Ski School lesson offerings have changed significantly for this winter season and advance reservations are essential for all lessons, as well as ski rentals. Please visit our SKI SCHOOL page to familiarize yourself with our available lesson and rental products.
  • • Tubing sessions have also changed with check-in times every 30-minutes and limits on participants for each session. Sessions are continuous starting at 10:30 a.m. with the final session beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Each session is 90 minutes.

Be aware that we will remain fluid in our efforts and will adjust as needed to meet any new or changing situations and/or guidelines.

The Copper Kettle will have indoor and outdoor seating; tables will be spaced at least 6-feet apart. Bar seating will not be available. The Shenandoah Center and our new Food Shack on the patio will be open for “Grab ‘n Go”. The Shenandoah Center will have designated IN and OUT doors.

In addition to the guidelines on the website, there will be signage all around the resort. We are taking part in the NSAA Ski Well, Be Well campaign – a national campaign for ski area operating best practices. Much of the signage you will see around the resort, including Ski Well, Be Well; If You Arrive Together, Ride Together; Be Wise, Sanitize; and Face Masks Are Required.

We sincerely hope you find this information helpful and that it eases any doubts you may have about booking your winter vacation or day trip at Bryce Resort; know that we are doing our best to help keep you and our staff safe during this pandemic. These changes to our operations are intended to allow us to open as safely as possible and to remain open through our last scheduled day of winter operations.

TICKETING

•  All tickets must be purchased online. Tickets will be picked up outside at the ticket window of rental/ticket building.

•  Online release waivers will be a check box via the online ticket purchasing process.

RENTALS

•  All rentals must be purchased online.  Rental Equipment listed online will have a description to better help you choose the correct length & size based on your skier ability and measurements.

•  Online waivers will be available via a checkbox during the rental online purchasing process.

•  When purchasing your equipment rental online, there will be rental pickup times to choose from.  Rental pickup times are being used to protect guest and employees and to ensure social distancing and not exceeding capacity.  Pickup times are first come first serve, based on availability when finalizing your online rental reservation.

•  A Bryce Resort employee will go over rental orientation from a safe social distance.

•  Bryce Resort will have designated areas to return rental equipment.

LESSONS

•  Lessons must be purchased online and are based on availability.

•   No group lessons except for Family/Friend pods who traveled to the resort together. For our Private Lessons, First-Time Packages, and Kinder School there will be an individual lesson option and a Family/Friend Pod option.

•  Check-in for Kinder School Private lessons will be inside the Ski School – limited only to parties within the lesson booking for that specific time.

•  Check-in for all other private lessons will be located outside the Ski School – slope side.

•  Beginning lesson meetings will be held outside.

•  Please remember that if the participant answers yes to any of these questions below, they cannot participate.

»  Has the participant been around anyone with COVID19 in the last 14 days?

»  Does the participant have a fever of 100.4 or higher?

»  Does the participant have a sore throat?

»  Does the participant have a wet cough or are they experiencing any shortness of breath?

»  Does the participant have a headache?

CHAIRLIFTS & CARPET LIFTS

•  Face mask required for anyone above the age of 10 and highly recommended for anyone between the ages of 3 and 10.

•  Social distancing required.

»  Adhere to social distance markers located on carpet lifts & at lift lines.

•  Ghost lanes have been created in lift lines to adhere to social distancing.

•  Lift #2 will be available on peak days for singles and doubles to ride.

•  Beginning lesson meetings will be held outside.

•  Lift policy limits chairlift occupancy to people from the same guest party (Arrive Together, Ride Together); two willing individuals or staff, not from the same party, seated on opposite sides of the quad chairlift; or one individual guest on our double lift.

SHENANDOAH CENTER GRILL

•  Mask Required other than while eating or drinking.

•  Social Distancing Required.

»  Adhere to social distance markers located on carpet while in food lines.

•  Tables are not to be moved- set to 6ft social distancing.

•  Credit Card or Member Charge strongly encouraged as payment methods (cash is accepted).

•  Designated “In” doors and “Out” doors.

COPPER KETTLE RESTAURANT

•  Mask Required other than while eating or drinking.

•  Social Distancing required.

•  Takeout available.

•  QR codes are being utilized for guest to view our menu – QR codes can be found at multiple locations throughout the Resort.

•  Dine in available- tables are not to be moved- set to 6ft social distancing.

»  Credit Card or Member Charge strongly encouraged as payment method (cash is accepted).

»  Designated “In” doors and “Out” doors.

FOOD SHACK

•  Mask Required other than while eating or drinking.

•  Social Distancing required.

•  Face masks required.

•  Social distancing required.

•  Anyone who needs a boot fitting will be required to bring their own, clean pair of socks or they will be available for purchase.

•  Face Masks are required for anyone over the age of 2 for boot fitting.

Will you be open?

Yes, unless instructed otherwise by the Governor of Virginia, Bryce Resort will be open for Winter 2021 as soon as mother nature allows us.  Please monitor our website and social media outlets (Facebook & Instagram) for the latest on snow making and opening day.  

If Bryce Resort’s snow is machine-made (“fake”) snow why have you not been able to open yet?

While most of our snow at Bryce is machine made, it is not fake snow and there is a great deal that goes into snowmaking; from our snowmakers, to the temperature & humidity, to the snow making equipment (pumps, compressors and snow guns) each element plays a crucial role.  First and foremost, we absolutely need cold weather in order to make snow. Temperatures need to be 28 degrees and dropping with low humidity to even consider snowmaking.  Our snowmakers keep a close eye on the wet bulb, which is a combination of air temperature and humidity.  The lower the wet bulb, the better of an opportunity to make snow, even with “warmer” temperatures.  Water and compressed air are what creates our snow.  Once temperatures cooperate, compressors are then used to push compressed air through miles of snowmaking pipes, to snow guns, which draws from our water source, that are placed strategically throughout the mountain.  Once the compressed air is mixed with the water in the snow guns, snow is created. 

If the Governor of Virginia installs more mandates that no longer allow the resort to operate their activities, will I be refunded my booking?

Yes, if Virginia mandates change and Bryce is no longer to offer an activity or service that a customer has made a reservation for, the reservation would be cancelled by Bryce Resort and the customer would receive a full refund.

Are your restrictions going to change?

We continue to follow the updates provided by the Governor of Virginia.  At this time, Bryce Resort is abiding by mandates and if anything were to change that effects our operations, we will revisit our policies and adhere to changes and communicate with our guest.  Bryce Resort COVID policies and updates can be found on our website.

If I have made a reservation for an activity / service and due to weather, the activity / service is not available, will I be refunded my booking?

Yes, if Bryce is unable to offer the activity or service that a customer has made a reservation for due to weather, the reservation would be cancelled by Bryce Resort and the customer would receive a full refund.

Will you issue refunds?

Refunds will only be issued if we are unable to offer the activity you booked due to Governor of Virginia restrictions or Bryce being unable to offer the activity due to weather.   

Can I purchase on-site?

Winter activities must be purchased online through bryceresort.com to better help keep our guests and employees safe.  

Can I switch my reservations?

Yes, you may switch your reservations by contacting us 24 hours in advance by calling 540.856.2121 x242.

When do you recommend, I make my booking?

We recommend you make your booking as soon as possible.  Early booking ensures you can reserve for your desired activity and time slot.  Activities most likely to sell out are lessons and tubing.  Tubing especially during holiday periods. 

I have a Bryce Resort gift card, how to I use that as payment for my online reservation?

If you would like to pay for your activity with a gift card, please call the rental & ski lift ticket department at 540.856.2121 x242 (or) ski school for lessons at 540.856.2121 x229 to make your reservation.  When calling, at that time, please let them know you will be using a Bryce Resort gift card as payment for your reservation. 

Do you have a location on-site that I can store my personal belongings while participating in your winter activities?

There are no lockers available for daily usage this year due to COVID restrictions.  Personal belongings must be kept either with the guest or in vehicles.  We also ask that guest do not leave personal belongings in the Shenandoah Center Grill. 

Is night skiing available?

Yes, night skiing is available on Friday & Saturday’s as well as during holiday periods.

How will your tubing work this year?

We have restructured our tubing this year to provide continuous tubing sessions.  A maximum of 40 tickets will be sold each half hour block.  Sessions last 90 minutes.  

Saturday: 10am-7pm

Sunday: 10am-3pm

Friday: 6pm

I don’t see ice skating available to book online, how do I book?

Ice Skating individually is not available to book online.  Ice Skating tickets can be purchased directly at the Ice-Skating location.  If you are purchasing anything else online (tubing, lessons, lift & rental packages), when you are checking out, there will be an option to add an ice-skating ticket to your purchases for an additional $8. 

How do multi-days tickets work?

Multi-day tickets can be purchased for consecutive days only. 

If I am teaching my young child how to ski, do I have to have a ticket?

Children 5 and under ski for free with a ticketed adult.  Anyone who is skiing on our slopes, carpet or chairlift, is required to purchase a lift ticket if above the age of 5.  If your child is 5 or under, please see the lift ticket window to assist in providing your child a free 5 and under lift ticket. 

How do I make a reservation for my free ski ticket since I am over 70 and want to ski on a non-holiday weekday?

Free 70 and over lift ticket reservations cannot be made online.  Please call the rental & ski lift ticket department at 540.856.2121 x242 to make a reservation. 

If I purchase multi-day rentals, what do I do with my rental equipment?

Multi day rentals are the guest responsibility to store during the rental period.  Multi-day rentals are not to be returned to our rental department until your rental time period is up.  Please store your rentals in your car or accommodations during your multi-day rental period.

I am a Bryce Resort member, with an activity pass, do I need to make a reservation for lift access?

Activity pass holders do not need to make a reservation for lift access.  They have been factored into our daily lift capacity.  As a passholder, all you’ll do is continue to go directly to the lift line and present your photo ID as you have in the past.    

I am a member and would like to make a reservation for my myself, I do not have an activity pass, and/or my guest, who do I do that?

Members who need to make lift access reservations and do not have an activity pass, or want to make a reservation for their guest, which will be charging to the member account or using coupon booklets, may do so by contact the lift & rental department at 540.856.2121 x242.

Do members need to make reservations?

Yes, if you do not have an activity pass, you must make a reservation also.  Lesson, Package & Rental reservations can be made online. 

Lift ticket & tubing reservations can be made by calling the lift & rental department at 540.856.2121 x242. 

I am a member and want to make tubing reservations for myself (free to members) and my guest; how do I do that?

All members need to make tubing reservations for themselves and their guest by calling: 540.856.2121 x242.  Tubing availability fills up quickly, we highly recommend contacting us to make your reservations sooner rather than later to ensure the best opportunity to book your desired tubing session.

How do I as a member or my guest redeem their tubing & ski booklet coupons?

Any member or guest who needs to book for tubing or ski lift access using a member coupon cannot do online through the reservation system.  Please call the rental & ski lift ticket department at 540.856.2121 x242 to make a reservation.  When calling, at that time, please let them know you will be using a member coupon as payment for your reservation. 

What if I’m interested in booking for the 1st Time Package but have my own equipment?

If you do not need rental equipment, but are interested in the 1st Time Package, online, please book for a Private Lesson & Carpet Use Ticket, do not book the 1st Time Package.

What if I’m interested in booking for the Kinder School Program but have my own equipment?

If you do not need rental equipment, but are interested in the Kinder School Program, online, please book for a Private Lesson & Carpet Use Ticket, do not book the Kinder School Package.

I am interested in your Kinder School Program. Can you explain it to me?

Our Ski Wee Program is available for children ages 4 ½ – 7.  Ski for ages 4 ½ – 7 and snowboard for ages 6 – 7.  Ski Wee includes equipment (ski/board with boots & helmet, a carpet use ticket and a 2-hour lesson.  You have the option to either book as 1 person, costing $150, or book as a family/friend pod (2-5 people), costing $100 for the group lesson + $90 per person for the equipment rental & carpet use ticket.  

I am interested in a First Time Package. Can you explain it to me?

Our First Time Package is available for guest ages 8 and over for either ski or snowboard.  The package includes equipment rentals (ski/board with boots & helmet), a carpet use ticket and 60-minute lesson.  You have the option to either book as 1 person, costing $180, or book as a family/friend pod (2-6 people), costing $150 for the group lesson + $90 per person for the equipment rental & carpet use ticket.  

Are you offering your First Time Packages & Kinder School Program this year?

Yes.  This winter, we are not offering group lessons to keep our guest safe.  First Time Packages and the Kinder School Program can be booked as a private lesson or in a family/friend pod lessons to only be booked with family or friends you arrive with. 

I have an Indy pass; how do I make my reservation for ski lift?

Indy pass holders are factored into our daily lift capacity.  There is no need to make a reservation, please go to our lift & rental ticket area once you arrive on site, present your Indy pass to them and they will provide you a lift ticket for the day.  

Although Bryce Resort is not affiliated with the local mountain resort lodging, we can still help by pointing you in the right direction to ensure a memorable stay for you and your family! From options like ski lodge resorts to local mountain resort hotels, no trip to Bryce is complete without a cozy comforting place to rest your head for the next day’s adventures!

Please refer to each lodging vendor’s protocol for COVID19 when booking.

All guests are expected to follow all recommended CDC COVID19 guidelines & Bryce Resort guidelines.  Your compliance helps the resort to continue to offer a safe, fun environment for all our guests and employees. Failure to do so may result in staff intervention and could ultimately result in losing access to the resort. If you cannot comply with these procedures and guidelines or if you have any signs or symptoms of COVID-19, please stay home.
